Women in Action

Community Childminding Network

The Challenge

Women from underprivileged families are unable to get/sustain jobs because of childcare contingencies.

The Solution

A childminding network catering for after-childcare hours and contingency support will help low-income women access and hold jobs in the retail, hospitality, F&B and service sectors. These service sectors often face a shortage of manpower, and the main contributing factor is that these jobs are based on shift work and usually require them to work on weekends.

How We Help

This initiative is part of the low-income women’s efforts to rally community support among mothers like themselves, to form a “kampong of trust” in order to solve their day-to-day childminding needs. This means more of them can go out to work and earn much-needed income for their families.

What We Aim to Achieve

“Women in Action” Community Childminding Network fosters a network of home-based childminders for mothers by mothers

We aim to grow the network of home-based childminders and their capacity to provide safe and trusted peer-to-peer childminding support in low-income neighbourhoods over the next 3 years.
